Root canal

I've been in lots of pain for the last 3 days. I got into the dentist this morning and was told I'd need a root canal. It's scheduled for tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

I've been lucky enough to have fairly good dental health throughout my 30 years. I only have 1 filling. Now, the prospect of having some dude put a needle in my gums and drill a hole in my tooth fills me fear and anxiety. Ugh.

On the upside, perhaps the painkillers they'll give me will make me forget about food.

I have an appointment for a crown tomorrow (Tuesday) which I pray will not turn into a root canal. I don't think it will, but still, the fear is there. They better not hurt me, as I have a hot date tomorrow night (not just with the election returns! :) Anyhow good luck to you with your dental work.

I'm not sure if the pain killers effect hunger, but chewing will be difficult! Stock up on smoothie supplies tonight.

Advil is your best friend. Just sayin' :) If (and I'm sure you do) have a gentle dentist, it won't be as bad as you think. But then, I've been shot up with novocaine so many times I've mastered drinking with a straw while numb. Root canals are the stuff of folk legend. It's worst in words than in reality. I really do wish you all the best.

Hey Morgan, I've started reading your blog again after a 'food/diet/exercise blog' break. Anyhow, getting caught up on your blog was inspirational and wow, your marathon - you did it! I have to admit that I wondered if you'd actually do it and you did! Good for you, I'm so happy for you! I wanted to let you know that root canals aren't that bad. They numb you up pretty good and aside from feeling some pushing and pulling you won't notice much. Take your mp3 player and just zone out. They may give you pain meds for afterward, but you may not need them. In any case, take care and keep on keepin' on.

I hope the root canal goes well. I've had too many to count. Once the drilling starts the pain goes away... that's a good thing! Be well !
