The Golden Arches of doom

So I ate McDonald's last night. After my regular dinner. Right before bed, too. This morning I'm feeling marginally guilty, but more than that, there are physical manifestations of my trip to the Golden Arches. Headache, fatigue, bad mood... I could go on.

I always feel this way after eating junk with no nutritional value. So, why do I continue to do it? Why is it so difficult to think "Oh, I probably shouldn't eat McDonald's because it will make me a zombie tomorrow" prior to the act? Because I want fries, that's why. The anticipation of salty, starchy goodness outweighs any common sense that makes an appearance in my brain.

Also, I should mention that when I get a craving for junk, Angie is usually close behind me. In this case, she actually was the one who went and picked up the food. So not only am I subjecting my own body to this artery-clogging crap, but a loved one's as well. That's a pretty terrible thing for me to do. So, this morning, I told Angie that McDonald's is on the "banned" list for now.

On a brighter note, the binge eating is starting to subside a bit. While I had my disgusting cold last week, I allowed myself to make terrible choices at mealtimes, thereby cutting off any sense of deprivation. I guess that's the reason I haven't had a binge in a while. Now, if I can just stay on the common-sense-wagon for a few days, I'll be in better shape.

It's really helpful for me to read your blog and see how and "after" person manages with daily temptations. Thank you, as always for sharing with us.

So glad to hear the binge needs are subsiding. :)

I know what you mean about not being to keep away from certain meals, food or restaraunts. It's human nature. We want to eat what tastes good. Yes fat and fried food tastes good!!!
You've recognized it and common sense has kicked in.
I'm with you sista...

HI Morgan!!!
I have read your ENTIRE blog over the course of the last 4 days. I too have a weight loss blog and am training for a marathon and binge eat (maybe we were separated at birth-no wait I am 10 years older!) Anyway, all I can really say about you is WOW! I have lost 65 pounds and have maybe 50 more to go (not real sure of final goal) Your words echo my thoughts quite often. Thank you so much for sharing!

set a date for yourself-- usually 4 weeks is a good one-- and when you come back, you just might find that you don't want them anymore. i've always been a french fry/potato chip addict, but i forced myself to stop fr a bit and now i get sort of nauseous just looking at them. i do eat them occasionally, but i now have the power to say, "no!" :)

a lot of times when i'm craving something crispy and salty, i make kale chips-- chopped up kale tossed in oil (not too much), vinegar and salt, then baked for 10-15 minutes until crispy. it always satisfied the craving!
